For alterations, we always encourage people to seek out a dress maker or designer to do the work. Basic alterations departments that you find at retail stores or at the cleaners are usually not geared to

perform the detailed alterations that formal gowns require. It is unlikely that they understand formal garment construction from the inside out. As a result, you may leave with "band-aid" soutions to your dress instead of a correct alteration. These tend to cause more issues than they solve.
